Coach Alan has been the Boys Head Coach at Moanalua High School for eight years now and has guided his team to six straight OIA Championships, three 3rd place finishes at the state tournament, and 2 runner up finish at the 2016 & 2018 HHSAA State tournament. Coach Alan took over the girls program 2 years ago and has already won back to back OIA Championships - (2014-2015) tying the record that the school holds for OIA Girls Volleyball Championships. He then went on to win another in 2017. Coach Alan has turned both the boys and girls program into one of the premiere high school volleyball programs in the state. Physical and fitness training is done by Kenny Patton - one of the best trainers in Hawaii. Study Hall and academic support is provided for all players. He was named 2016 Hawaii State Coach of the Year and OIA Coach of the Year, 2018 and 2021 Hawaii State Coach of the Year.
Profession: Coach Alan teaches Honors Physics and Inclusion Physics (usually all incoming 9th graders) at Moanalua High School. He has been at the school for 15 years now and can usually be found in Room G203. He started his school at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin before moving to Seattle, Washington. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Biology and Chemistry at the University of Washington, Seattle. He lived in Seattle for 10 years before making his way back to Guam. Originally from Guam, Coach Alan taught there for a year before returning to Hawaii. It is the love of volleyball that eventually brought him back to Hawaii which he now calls home. His hope is for his athletes to learn values such as hard work, team work, commitment, and leadership that will continue to make them successful both on and off the court. |
