Moanalua Volleyball History:
VOLLEYBALL AT MOANALUA: Moanalua High School has always had a rich tradition of girls and boys volleyball teams. With that tradition and history, Coach Alan implemented a system that the USA National team uses. The program understands and utilizes techniques from goldmedalsquared philosophy. Learning at Moanalua uses brain based strategies to maximize understanding of the game and how the body works. And since, Moanalua Volleyball has earned unprecedented success in the OIA and in the state tournament.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: In 2014, Head Coach Alan Cabanting took over the girls program as well. Since taking over, Coach Alan has taken the OIA Championship in 2014, 2015, and 2017. All times they finished 3rd in the state tournament. This has tied the most OIA Championship since Moanalua began. Coach Alan also held the first annual summer camp in 2014. Loyola Marymount University Assistant Coach Aaron Benning was the lead camp instructor and BYU MPSF Libero Jalen Reyes was the other instructor. The camp continues to be held every year as a stepping stone into the girls volleyball season.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL: Moanalua Volleyball has had a rich tradition of excellence. In 2012, Head Coach Alan Cabanting took over the boys program and has won 6 straight OIA titles since - most by any team since the 1977-1980 Roosevelt team. 5 of those 6 years, Moanalua has placed 3rd in the Hawaii State Championships. And in 2016, the program finally got over it's 3rd place hurdle and got into the state championship match. They were the state runner up - the first in 15 years for any public school in the state. Since then, they boys have reached the state championship match in 2019 and more recently in 2021. The boys team continue to create history and look to rewrite the record books.
